When you need each format
Upload SRT to YouTube — it is the format the studio accepts most reliably. Use VTT when captions are being served by a web player directly, since it is the HTML5 standard. Take the plain text when you want the transcript rather than the captions: for a description, an article version of the video, or a word count of something already recorded.

Caption files often contain the full script of an unreleased video. This tool parses them in your browser and never transmits anything, so there is nothing to trust beyond the page you are on — you can disconnect from the internet and it still works.
What conversion cannot fix
Format conversion normalises timestamps and numbering, but it does not repair captions that overlap, run out of order or drift out of sync. Those are editing problems, and converting between formats will carry them straight through.
Common questions
What is the difference between SRT and VTT?
They carry the same information in almost the same shape. VTT begins with a WEBVTT header and uses a full stop before milliseconds; SRT uses a comma and numbers every cue. VTT is the web standard, SRT is what most editors and YouTube expect.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Parsing and conversion happen entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, which also means captions containing unreleased content are safe to convert here.
Why would I want plain text?
Stripping the timings gives you the transcript, which is useful for a description, a blog version of the video, or feeding into a summary. It is also the fastest way to get an accurate word count for a script you have already recorded.
Does this fix broken timings?
No. It converts between formats and normalises the timestamp style, but it will not repair overlapping or out-of-order cues — that needs a caption editor.
